FAQ

Q. What is your creative process?

A. It all starts with your project and your budget. Our first step is to understand these in great details. We then work backwards to define the parameters within which we must operate in order to deliver what you want.

Q. Do you make music or Do you work on sound engineering and mixing?

A. Both. Almost all of us are musicians first. That’s how we got into this field. That said all of us are excellent sound engineers. We couldn’t give birth to our musical ideas without knowing how to make quality, broadcast-ready mixes. Some of the projects we take on focus mostly on mixing. Almost all call for some kind of music. We then have two options: selecting from our catalog of exclusive music or starting from scratch and create original custom-made music.

Q. Do you license music?

A. Yes. In fact that was initially our focus. That is why we have a licensing catalog. It became clear that our interest expands beyond matching songs or music to placement opportunities. So we expanded our projects to leverage all of the skills our team has to offer. But licensing remains firmly in our list of services. We offer music beds as background music for media projects. We also offer instrumentals (beats) to write songs to.

Q. What is atmos?

A. Atmos is the latest format from Dolby. Think of it as Surround Sound + Height. Surround speakers were placed around the listening environment on a horizontal plane. Atmos adds speakers on the ceiling. This is great for movies obviously but it is also an amazing advancement for music. The major innovation of Atmos is that this feeling of openness and spatiousness can be experienced with headphones. All major labels and streaming services have embraced Atmos. Fully half of all music now streamed on Apple Music is mixed in Atmos.

Q. What’s immersive audio vs. atmos vs. VR audio?

A. Immersive is a catch-all term that describes the new frontier in audio. The goal is to create a sound stage that feels more like how you experience sound in the real world. Sound doesn’t only come from left and right. It comes from behind and above as well. Immersive audio brings that feeling to your listening experience. But there are differences in how that is achieved. Atmos creates a bubble of sound in which to place musical/sonic elements. At this time Atmos content is head-locked. This means that on headphones everything moves with you as you move your head. Things will indeed feel more spacious but everything follows you as you look around. VR Audio on the other hand is what you’d expect in a video game. If something catches your ear coming from the right, moving your head in the direction of the sound will mean the sound is now facing you directly. VR Audio sonic elements are head-tracked. The movements of your head are tracked and the position of all the sound sources re-positioned in real time. Today, VR Audio can be experienced on YouTube 360 and Oculus/Meta Quest. We believe head-tracked sonic experiences are the future.

Q. Do you record audio books?

A. We do. And we can augment the experience by adding sound effects and music to paint a picture that will take the listener experience to the next level.

Q. do you produce podcasts?

A. Yes. Podcasts can be as simple as an interview. However many podcasts are narratives that call for sound effects (Folley) and music. We will work with you to create the best result for your vision and budget.

Q. Do you score movies?

A. Yes. We love scoring to picture. We score projects as short as ads and as long as feature-length movies.
